Chicago Public Radio Story on New Approaches to Ending Domestic Violence

Chip Mitchell, a reporter in Chicago Public Radio's West Side Bureau sent us a note about a radio story on batterer intervention that's airing today (Wednesday May 14, 2008):

CHURCH’S APPROACH TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RAISES EYEBROWS: A mostly Mexican parish in Chicago is running a controversial program for victims of domestic violence. Here’s what’s unusual: The abusers are sometimes allowed to join the program. The goals are to get these men to recognize their behavior problems, bring the violence to a halt, and save marriages. Some call that combination risky. Others say it’s the way many Latina victims want to take on the abuse in their family.

Mitchell says he'd appreciate hearing responses on the topic in general or on the coverage. Use the comment section at the bottom of the story’s Web version.
