Salud Project Influences Many
Posted by Anel Ruiz September 29, 2008
On August 15th, Salud had its first standing room only performance! Over 300 people, many of whom were directly connected to the young actors and radio producers, enjoyed a performance that marked the end of the summer. The performance in many ways was a rite of passage; after a summer filled with trainings, workshops, seminars, and rehearsals it was time to show off all that hard work.
The audience gave our young performers a standing ovation. After the performance all of the performers came on stage and opened up the floor for questions. The audience asked powerful and thoughtful questions about the radio novelas and theatre piece, asking youth about their perspectives and training.
After tremendous success at home, Salud will be taking its powerful message to other communities. The radio novelas will be turned into educational curriculum. Youth will design and deliver the curriculum; knowing that peer-to-peer our message is most effective. The theater production will also be traveling to colleges and highschools in Chicago. Salud participants are excited to share with the broader community topics that affect Mexican immigrant health.
