Eric Olander, Media Producer, "10 Steps to Better Healthcare: A Guide for Chinese-American Seniors"

My work at KSCI TV LA 18 focuses exclusively on how we can empower new Asian immigrants in Los Angeles to succeed in their new American life. It is my job to develop programs and content that serve this mission each and every day. LA 18 is a lifeline for those who are either culturally or linguistically isolated from the larger American culture. Through the content and editorial teams I manage, it is my hope that our programs can ease the sometimes daunting process of assimilation to life in the United States.

People from the so-called “Confucian Cultures” of Japan, Korea and Greater China have endured regular upheaval within their societies over the past millennia. There is an ingrained fear that tomorrow will not always be better than today. Subsequently, this cautionary instinct has led to the creation of very pragmatic and frugal societies that encourage savings, simplicity and public modesty. In these recessionary times, those values can serve as positive ideals to our sometimes over indulgent American culture.
